Mostly I don't offer free shipping. You could try it for a while and see if sales improve...

I offer free shipping sometimes. Most of the times, for small items that doesn't cost much to ship or if it's an OOAK item that is ready to ship and I don't want to repeat it. More like to get rid of it :)

What does OOAK mean?

Noah, it means One of a Kind. An item that is unique due to technique used or if you won't be making it again for sure and someone else will have trouble to make an accurate copy of that item :) In my case - it's woven scarves made from handdyed yarn, which means each skein is different.

Hi Patti, my whole shop is in Free Shipping. It's a good way to increase and promote your sales.

Sophie, how do you deal with international orders shipping?

I offer free shipping very rare but when the shipping is expensive (for heavy items) I reduce shipping cost and add it to item's cost to make the item more attractive or ordering :)

Would love to offer free shipping but it's too much for International orders, which many of our sales are. I think it only makes sense if you are selling a lower cost item which ships in a small box and does not need insurance or tracking.

I am going to start offering Free Domestic Shipping for all my items on the 1st. I already do for all jewelry and discount on international. It has been a job to look at all items and see how the price fits with my already listed items and all the new items I am holding off listing till then. I hope it all pays off. I will let you all know how it goes.

I don't offer free shipping. It really depends, most importantly, on how much profit you have to play with. I actually price my shipping a little higher than the actual cost to cover my listing fee and etsy fees. It works for me at the moment, but it's always something to re-evaluate.

I also don't offer free shipping. I do use free shipping coupons on those orders that are well over 10 items purchased (and if the dollar amount warrants it - as long as the purchase is not on sale).

I have tried it with a variety of items with mixed results. Seems to work for small items that have low shipping costs but doesn't help with items that have a higher shipping cost. That is to say, works for lettermail/media mail shipments but not for bulkier items like teacups. We are based in Canada so our Canada/U.S.A. items would get free shipping but international orders would be charged 2 or 3 dollars to cover the extra cost.

If you offer free shipping, remember to add a tag of Free Shipping to your 13 tags. People search for Free Shipping so it needs to be a tag.

Thanks a lot Kathy! That's a good tip.

Earlier, I used the free shipping, very often. But for large orders it can be inconvenient to the customer. And for the delivery of Etsy is no fees.
