Shopify plans update

Every day Shopify make tens (if not hundreds) of updates to the Shopify platform, adding new features and functionality, fixing bugs, and trying to make the software better for all merchants. On May 30th Shopify made such changes, specifically to the plan’s names, staff restrictions and prices.

The intent with these changes is to make pricing simpler to understand, and to ultimately charge a reasonable amount based on the value that comes from running a business with Shopify.

These changes and new plans will not affect current shop owners unless they decide to change their shop’s plan. All existing merchants will remain on the plan they are currently on and continue to pay the same price going forward.

Here are the updates, sorted by existing plan name:

  • Starter plan: This plan has been discontinued.

  • Lite: The new ‘Shopify Lite’ plan has a limit of 1 staff account (in addition to the owner’s account).

  • Basic: The new ‘Basic Shopify’ plan has a limit of 2 staff accounts (in addition to the owner’s account).

  • Professional: The new ‘Shopify’ plan has a limit of 5 staff accounts (in addition to the owner’s account)

  • Unlimited: The new ‘Advanced Shopify’ plan has a limit of 15 staff accounts (in addition to the owner’s account). As well, the price will increase to $299. Remember, if your client is already on this plan, you will be grandfathered and won’t be affected by the price change.

  • Shopify Plus: No changes.

Shopify staff expect to make more changes to plans and pricing in the future. Please check updated plans and pricing page to see the currently displayed plan name, feature, and pricing mix.
